About Me
I'm Steph - I live in Bury St Edmunds with my husband and our ten-year-old daughter. I am a Music teacher and a Forest School Practitioner. We have been educating our daughter ourselves from the beginning.
As well as teaching, I also spend a lot of time running a Community Interest Company, West Suffolk Hive CIC, and my organisation, St Edmundsbaby, which supports local parents via a website, magazine, events and drop-in groups.
My main passions involve nature and animals, as well as music, especially early music. My daughter and I do most of her home educating outdoors where possible. I feel that the benefits of learning outdoors to children's well-being is immeasurable, and they are learning many useful team-building skills while in the forest. The mixed age group creates an amazing dynamic between the younger and older students, who work and play together beautifully. Each child is treated as an individual, and their personal strengths and skills are celebrated and nurtured.
This website includes helpful links for resources, groups, events and articles that may help families who are choosing to educate their children themselves, as well as a glimpse into our own experiences as a home educating family. West Suffolk Home Education Hub is part of West Suffolk Hive CIC, a community interest company based in Bury St Edmunds, which aims to create a family-centred community space in a natural environment to foster a connection with nature, improve wellbeing and share skills and knowledge.
